From seventeenth Century onwards, the Europeans began to manufacture pearlescent pigment by using fish scale extract, mainly to satisfy the need of the cosmetics industry. Nowadays, there are some expensive pearlescent luster pigments are still produced in this way, the main disadvantages are too high cost and poor stability.
