Usages:
1) used as a treatment for many toxic substances, such as mushroom, and ptomaine poisonings;
2) as a treatment of severe burn injuries;
3) used as pharmaceutical intermediate to produce albumin tannate for an anti-diarrhea agent; to produce tannate salts of certain anti-histamins and anti-tussives to impart increased stability or slow release properties to the API (active pharmaceutical ingredient).
4) tannic acid is the principle but perhaps minimally effective ingredient in anti-allergen spray;
5) other diseases:
Tannic acid applied directly can treat diaper rash, prickly heat, poison ivy, ingrown toenails, and skin rashes; and to stop bleeding.
Orally, tannic acid applied directly can treat sore throat and tonsils, spongy or receding gums, cold sores and fever blisters.
