Silicon Nitride ceramic balls retain some performance relative to metal materials, such as high strength, hardness, wear-resistant, high rigidity, resistance to corrosion and high temperature, high electric insulation and nonmagnetic, low density and so on, they are suitable for structure materials at elevated temperatures, which have been the primarily choice of ceramic bearing.
Main characteristics as below:
1. High corrosion resistance, which means they can be also used in strong acid, strong alkali and seawater.
2. High temperature resistance. Silicon Nitride ceramic balls can still retain the strength and hardness even the temperature comes to 1100.
3. Electrical insulation, non-magnetic, they can also be used in magnetic field.
4. Silicon Nitride ceramic balls have a low density of 3.26g/cm3, it is approximately 60% lighter than steel balls, which extremely decrease the centrifugal force that act on the groove when there is a rotate speed on the deep groove.
5. High rigidity and high strength. Compared with bearing wheel, silicon nitride ceramic is twice higher in hardness and half higher in elastic modulus value.
6. The coefficient of thermal shock of silicon nitride is 3.2× 10-6/K, it is nearly 25% of the bearing steel, which leads to a good thermal shock resistance of silicon nitride ceramic.
7. The self-lubrication of silicon nitride ceramic ball bearings can help to solve the contamination and inconvenient adding ways that caused by lubricator, it can be used in vacuum and high temperature conditions.
8. High resistance to chemical corrosion, high mechanical strength and low thermal conductivity.
