4.Characteristics
Compared with normal conductors, the ACCC conductor has the following advantages such as light weight, high intensity, anti-corrosion, high conductivity, low sag, and the larger operation temperature and current capacity etc, as described below:
a.Lighter weight: the density of ACCC is: 1.9g/cm3, and the normal steel wire is: 7.78g/cm3. The ACCC conductor is 20% to 30% lighter than the same aluminum section area ACSR. So it will reduce around 25% tower weight during the old transmission line reformed.
b.Higher intensity: the tensile strength of normal steel wire is 1240MPa,and extra high intensity is 1600MPa, however the carbon composite core of ACCC is at least 2100Mpa, 2400Mpa, it's much larger than steel wire.
c.Anti-corrosion: The conductor is stranded by trapezoidal soft aluminium wire, to combining between the single lines, reduced the area section between outer layer and the outside environment, meanwhile to protect the core reinforced, with reducing the corrosion to the environment, it reduces the corona loss as well. Meanwhile, the core itself has no potential difference between aluminum wire and insulation structure, it won't produce electrochemical corrosion, so that it can be used under any extreme environment, with a much longer life.
d.Higher conductivity: Since the ACCC conductor is stranded by trapezoidal soft aluminium wire, the conductivity of its soft aluminum wire is about 63%IACS, while ACSR is only 61%.
e.Lower sag: the coefficient of linear expansion of steel wire is 11.5*10-6/oC, and the one of the core is only 1.6*10-6/ oC, no wonder it reduces the sag of ACCC conductor.
f.Higher operation temperature and current capacity: compared with normal ACSR, the ACCC conductor is made by trapezoidal aluminium wire, twisted compact, and the section area of aluminum is around 29% larger than ACSR(the same diameter), with current capacity 29% enhanced. meanwhile, the core is combined with epoxy group and fiber, which can be of high temperature resistance, so its allowed operating temperature is about160oC, while normal ACSR is only 70oC, and the operating current capacity of ACCC conductor is double of ACSR, still because of its light weight, the compatibilizing purpose can completely realize on the existing lines.
