Boron Carbide
It is kind of black crystal materials, one of the hardest man- made materials.
Its hardness with mohs hardness 9.36 and microscopic hardness 5400-6300kg/mm2, it is only a little less than diamond, Its gravity density is 2.52g/cm3, melting point at 2450C.

It has following unique features: neutron absorbing,of semi-conductivity, low thermal conductivity, high grinding efficiency and no reaction with either acids or alkali etc.

Boron carbide is widely used to grind and polish hard metal alloy, super-hard metal, high carbide steel, jewel, hard ceramic and other hard materials, to manufacture wear-resisting parts, metal cutting tools, nozzles and neutron-absorbing rods, used as metal additive for compound materials for military planes and as raw materials for matal boride, metal ceramic, boron steel, boron alloy and for special welding and refractory materials

Application:
1 , As a high- hardness carbide abrasive materials for a variety of cemented carbide , Boron carbide can be used in grinding , polishing, drilling of corundum , precious stones, glass or ceramic;

2, By high temperature and hot pressing, the high quality boron carbide powder can be used in manufacturing abrasive blast, correct tools, disc, bearing support surface .

3 , in the nuclear industry , due to the isotope B10 has a high neutron absorption cross section properties of boron carbide in high boron content, therefore , boron carbide can be use as a neutron absorber in nuclear reactors are particularly suitable , and can serve as the best radiation shielding material.

4 , due to the high hardness and small relative proportion of boron carbide, it is very suitable for use in lightweight armor, such as armored personnel carriers, helicopters mailbox guard, body armor and other soldiers, military aircraft, surface coating bracket, instrument tank the armor plate manufacturing.
