Merits of adopting CO2 as the cryogenic refrigerant for cascade refrigeration cycle:
1. Under -50º C, CO2 has sufficient evaporating pressure, which could meet the demands of low temperature quick freezing. Moreover, no negative pressure is generated in the evaporator.
2. CO2 could be treated with the same process as the Freon Refrigeration System, because it is non-toxic, non-flammable, and tasteless and its formula weight is heavier than that of the air.
3. CO2 could be treated under natural working conditions and has little impact on the environment.
4. Even under low temperature, CO2 is small in viscosity and performs well in heat transmitting, compared with other refrigerants. It absorbs heat with its latent heat and its large refrigerating capacity per unit significantly reduces the heat transfer area needed
