Drum drying is a continuous indirect drying method.Products are dried by spreading them in a thin and uniform layer onto the heated surface.Due to the kneading effect of the applicator system and to the scraped heat exchange surface, the dryer is rather unique for the drying of viscous, pasty and sticky materials.Due to the short retention time of the product on high temperature, virtually no heat damage will occur.Contrary to the direct drying method, which uses hot air for evaporation, the drum dryer does not need and dust separation.The thermal efficiency is favorable whilst no heat is wasted in the larges volumes of exhausted air.
According to different material, there are three ways of distributing the feeding material as follows:
1.Feeding wet material with several applicator rolls:
This special construction of the dryer is especially suitable fro processing pasty or pulpy products such as a-starch, baby food, potato flakes or fruit flakes.Equipped with several applicators on the outer surface of the drum, it is easy to adjust the clearance between the applicators and drum surface.
2.Feeding material in the middle applicator:
The middle applicator immerses itself into the liquid tank.With the rotation of the applicator, the liquid layer of the product which sticks to the applicator roll is transferred to the drying drum.It is suitable for heat sensitive product which may avoid the long time contact and heating of drum and liquid.
3.Feeding material with immersion
The drum directly immerses into the liquid product.The drum rotates and forms a layer of film.This is suitable for pasty with non- heat sensitive material.
Equipment Characteristics
1.1.2~1.5 kg water steam is needed to evaporate 1kg material with water.
2.No dust, low noise, good operating environment and low cost.
3.It is suitable for continuous processing viscous, pasty and sticky materials.
4.With cooling medium, the material can be granulated to flakes.
