Along with development of modern iron and steel industry, the quick detection for the inner quality of the continuous billet casting becomes more and more important. The low-multiple structure acid corrosion inspection technique for steel is through acid corrosion on the specimen surface of the steels to determine if the interior of the steel has various non-continuous structure and defects such as inner cracking, skin lamination, looseness, fish eye, inclusion etc. Based on inspection results, the continuous billet casting technological parameters can be timely regulated and optimized, to improve the quality of the steels.
At present, most of the steel pants adopt hot acid erosion method to conduct low multiple structural detection for steel. This method has overlaborate operations and high operating cost, and needs to put the whole specimen into a high concentration hydrochloric acid, therefore it is very easy to generate danger. The typical method for adopting hot acid erosion is to heat up 1:1 hydrochloric acid solution to 70~80∩, the whole specimen is put into the acid tank, erosion is about 20~60 minutes, the outer surface of the whole specimen is eroded away 0.05~0.13 mm, then the inspection is conducted. Because the whole specimen is put into the hole hydrochloric acid, this method is extremely easy to result in the hydrochloric acid to splash out, meanwhile a great amount of "acid smoke" emitted in the hot acid erosion process is also harmful to the health of the operator.
In order to overcome mentioned above shortcomings in the hot acid erosion method, Hatch Steltech Company has developed a fully automatic electrolytic corrosion machine. This machine cannot only conduct low-multiple structure and defection for steel specimen, meanwhile but also it can complete or replace the "sulphur trace" detection used widely in the steel quality detection.
Technological Process
Hatch Steltech fully automatic electrolytic corrosion machine uses cold thin hydrochloric acid and uses the elect corrosion method to conduct erosion on the detected surface of the steel specimen. When operating, the erosion face of the steel specimen is only needed to lay down on an automatic removable stand, the acid erosion, cleaning and drying work on the steel specimen can be completed in proper order.
Hatch Steltech fully automatic corrosion machine utilizes a computer to conduct process control. It can not only automatically complete the steel specimen clamping, starting-up acid liquid pump, electrode energizing, flow rate safety control etc functions, but also it can also accurately control the treatment time for each link so as to assure the consistency of the detection results. The acid liquid circularly used by the electrolytic corrosion machine is stored in a built-in storing acid tank, the acid liquid for each tank can approximately erode several hundred specimens, then the waste liquid is drained and new acid liquid is filled.
The steel specimen will form a blank glue layer with about 0.0345 mm thick on the erosion face of the specimen through electrochemical reaction when the steel specimen conduct acid erosion, then the glue layer will be washed off through roller brushing and cleaning operation, and the specimen enters into the drying working position for drying. Finally the detection and evaluation for the low multiple structure and defect of the steel specimen can be conducted.

·Acid erosion is conducted on one face of the steel specimen so that reduces generation of H2 gas and avoids explosion danger.
·Before manual taking the specimen, the residual acid liquid on the steel specimen surface can be automatically cleaned .
