What is the Flame Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer?
The Flame Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer is a kind of spectrum instrument which is applied to trace analysis of heavy metals such as gold, silver and copper.
Principle of Flame Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer (F-AFS)
First of all, the nebulizer is used to change the element to be detected in the solution into the aerosol, and then the aerosol mixed with combustion air is transferred to the atomizer. The combustion air is burned at the outlet of the atomizer to atomize the element. In addition, the pulse light source (hollow cathode lamp with high intensity) is used to excite the element to be detected and then the produced fluorescence which is received by the short focus optical path is sent to the photomultiplier. Finally the light signal is transferred into the electric signal and the electric signal generated is direct proportion with the concentration of the element detected.

This kind of instrument can be used to analyze many heavy metals such as Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, etc. It is widely used in the fields of scientific research educational system, healthy quarantine, medical clinic inspection, medicines inspection, food sanitization inspection, water quality inspection, environmental protection monitor, cosmetics inspection, metallurgical sample inspection and geological prospecting mines, etc.
Features
High Sensitivity: Atomic fluorescence spectrometer with flame operation utilizes short focus optical system. The fluorescence signal generated by the detected element can be effectively transferred into the photo-detector. Thus, the fluorescence quench and the detection limit of the instrument decreases and the stability of the instrument increases. The analytical sensitivity of AFS is better than that of the flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS).
Less Interference: A hollow cathode lamp with high intensity can only excite one element and not excite the other elements, thus there is not any interference during the fluorescence signal producing.
Wide Linear Range: The linear range of the determined element is wide, over three orders of magnitude.
Low Cost: Liquefied petroleum gas commonly used in daily life is utilized as the combustion air, with low cost.

The model SK-830 can be upgraded to the model SK-2002B to be used for analyzing more heavy metals such as As and Se.
