Product Description
Green Silicon Carbide is produced in an electric resistance furnace from quartz sand, petroleum coke and salt at high temperature. It's semi-transparet in green color with friability, high purity and high hardness. It's suited for grinding hard, brittle and non-metallic such as cemented carbides, optical glass, ceramics,etc.
Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon with chemical formula SiC. It occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite.
Silicon carbide with high surface area can be produced from SiO2 contained in plant material.Because of the rarity of natural moissanite, most silicon carbide is synthetic. It is used as an abrasive, and more recently as a semiconductor and diamond simulant of gem quality. The simplest manufacturing process is to combine silica sand and carbon in an Acheson graphite electric resistance furnace at a high temperature, between 1600 and 2500 °C. Fine SiO2 particles in plant material (e.g. rice husks) can be converted to SiC by heating in the excess carbon from the organic material.The silica fume, which is a byproduct of producing silicon metal and ferrosilicon alloys, also can be converted to SiC by heating with graphite at 1500 °C.

Shengyu Abrasives was one of these earliest factories, named Weihua at that time.
After that, Yichuan made BFA started to be well known all over China and other countries. The booming of China economy accelerated the development of this industry in Yichuan in 1990s and 2000s, more factories, big or small emerged that that time. From the economic crisis in 2008 to now, this industry has experienced fierce competition and low market and has come to a stable status with hundreds of factories in this area.
