The body in charge of safety certification for electrical and electronic products in Brazil is INMETRO (Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Normalizacao e Qualidade Industrial-Inmetro), with Brazil product safety mandatory certification known as INMETRO certification. At the beginning, household appliances were not included in mandatory INMETRO certification. However, along with increasing amount of home appliance importation, Brazil government decided in early 2010 to add home appliances into mandatory INMETRO certification list, which included hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, heating blankets, water heaters, rang hoods, clothes dryers etc.
INMETRO certification mode is: product type test + factory audit + follow up surveillance
