Physical Chemistry: Oxadiazon is a light yellow powder. Melting point: 70C. Vapor pressure: <133 uPa at 20ºC. Solubility in water at 20º C is 0.7mg/L, in methyl or ethyl is 100g/L; In cyclohexane? Is 200g/l; In acetone is 600g/l; In benzene, chloroform, dimethyl benzene is 1000g/l. It's stable in room temperature.
Toxicity: Oxadiazon is practically nontoxic to mammals based on studies. LD50s of 3500 and >5,000 mg/kg were reported in oral rat studies. An LD50 of 5, 200 mg/kg was reported following dermal exposure in rats. In rabbits, a dermal LD50 of >2,000 mg/kg was reported.
Application: Oxadiazon is a selective, peremergent herbicide for control of many annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in turf and on a wide variety of woody ornamental shrubs, vines and trees. It controls weeds by killin the young weed seedlings as they come in contact with herbicide during germination.
