As a coenzyme, lipoic acid plays role in two key oxidation removing decarboxylation actions, namely it can catalyze the generation and transfer of acyl group in the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and α ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex. Alpha lipoic acid contains the double sulfur five membered ring structure, its electron density is very high, it has the significant ability of electrophilicity and free radicals reaction, so it has antioxidant properties with high value of health care and medical treatment (such as anti fatty liver and lowering plasma cholesterol role). In addition, sulfhydryl of lipoic acid easily take oxidation-reduction reaction, so it can protect the sulfhydryl enzyme from toxicity of heavy metal ion. Lipoic acid is widely distributed in nature, it is particularly rich in liver and yeast cells. In food, lipoic acid always coexists with vitamin B1. It can be synthesized in human body. Human lipoic acid deficiency Has not been found yet.
B group vitamin: In Europe it is drugs used in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy or neurological complications.
