The shadow show, also called leather-silhouette show or the shadow play a traditional Chinese folk art with rich glamour, is a combination of drawing, suclpting and performing that makes excellent use of light and shadow. The shadow-puppet play is a kind of drama in which puppets made of buffalo or donkey hide are silhouetted against a white screen that is illuminated from behind. With long-standing history, the shadow play came into being in Han Dynasty, and was introduced to the West in 13th century. Still being performed in Chinese folk communities, shadow play is hailed as the "pioneer and ancestor of movies".
