Function:
The overhung expanding drum type tension reels will be designed to wind the strip into a tight coil.
Feature:
The mandrel will support the coil on the recoiler with the segments expanded tightly against the inside of the coil by means of a sleeve actuated through a pull rod mechanism.
The mandrel will be driven by means of motor through an enclosed gearbox. The gear reduction train will consist of steel gears and pinions having single helical cut teeth. All gear drive shafts will rotate in roller bearings.
Heavy steel plates will be fabricated as a rigid structure, machined and fitted for mandrel support, oil reservoir, and drive gear housing. The gear housing sections will be bolted together to form an oil-tight enclosure. The tension reel main housing, with machined feet lined with replaceable bronze liners is assembled on a sub-base with machined ways lined with replaceable hardened steel liners permitting the hydraulic cylinder to shift the reel to either side of the centerline. The shifting movement is controlled by the automatic edge control system described under a separate item.
The lubrication system for the reel will consist of a motor driven, forced feed lubricating system for lubricating the gears and drive box. This system consists of a lubrication pump which will receive the oil from the reservoir within the housing. All piping and sight gauges in connection with the lubricating system will be provided and piped as an integral part of the reel assembly. The drive motor and pump assembly will be mounted on the drive housing. All other points requiring infrequent lubrication, will be equipped with individual grease fittings.
