Rockfall netting is typically used in 'drapery' applications where the netting is hung over the face of the slope to be protected. Any rocks or debris detaching from the face should be contained behind the rockfall netting drapery. Periodically, collected debris should be removed from behind the mesh.
The design of the netting installation should take into account the expected volume and weight of the debris collected, any external loads (ice, snow, vegetation) and the self weight of the mesh itself. Appropriate fixings are then designed taking into account the ground conditions at the crest and toe of the slope. Intermediate fixings are sometimes included and the mesh can be reinforced with external steel cables where required.
