Triphenylphosphine Resin as polymer-supported catalysts
This resin is a resin-bound equivalent of triphenylphosphine and has many applications, such as it has been utilized for the conversion of alcohols to alkyl chlorides, acids to acid chlorides, primary amide to nitriles, secondary amides to imidoyl chlorides, and to directly couple acids to amides in tetrachlorocarbon or trichloroacetonitrile. Substrates containing aromatic rings have been attached to this resin using a chromium carbonyl linker. Immobilization of the phenylalanine derivative Fmoc-Phe-OtBu via its aromatic ring has been achieved and the resulting resin successfully subjected to standard amino acid deprotection and coupling procedures. This resin has also been used for the preparation of polymer bound ylides which are useful for Wittig reactions and it has also been used in Mitsunobu reaction. Polymer-supported triphenylphosphine has also many applications in organometallic reactions. For example, it has been employed to generate polymer-supported catalysts. In most instances the catalyst could be used several times without loss of activity
