The SSL1016 Tape Autoloader replaces the DLT1 1280 SuperLoader, and supports up to 16 cartridges, in a 2U form factor, with a native data capacity of 640 GB when equipped with a DLT1 tape drive, 2.56 TB when equipped with a SDLT 160/320 tape drive, and 3.2 TB when equipped with an Ultrium 460 tape drive.
The HP StorageWorks SSL1016 tape autoloader combines library features and capacity in the compact form of an autoloader. With a native capacity of 640 GB when utilizing a DLT1 tape drives, 2.56 TB with an SDLT 160/320 drive, and 3.2 TB with an Ultrium 460 drive. The SSL1016 can easily replace a small library for many applications. At 2U high, the SSL1016 provides a large amount of storage without consuming a large amount of valuable rack space. The SSL1016 Autoloader also incorporates many Enterprise level features normally found only in tape libraries. The SSL1016 is replacing the DLT1 1280 SuperLoader product. The SSL1016 is the same platform as the SuperLoader, however, the SSL1016 comes fully configured with 16 slots and a barcode reader.

Read/Write Compatibility - The DLT1 1280 Superloader uses DLT IV tape cartridges when equipped with a DLT1 tape drive, as do other DLT drives. A DLT1-based SSL1016 is read-only compatible only with tapes written in DLT4000 format (20/40 GB). It can not read or write tapes written on DLT7000 (35/70 GB), or DLT8000 (40/80 GB) formats. It utilizes the DLT1 format. If A DLT IV tape cartridge has been initialized to any of the non-DLT1 formats, it must be degaussed before it can be written in a DLT1 drive. An SDLT-based SSL1016 can also utilize DLT IV tape cartridges, and is Backward Read Compatible at DLT densities of: 20/40, 35/70, 40/80 GB, as well as DLT1 / DLT VS 40/80 at 40/80 GB density.
