Metakaolin:

1. Description:
Metakaolin is refined kaolin clay that is fired (calcined) under carefully controlled conditions to create an amorphous aluminosilicate that is reactive in concrete. Like other pozzolans (fly ash and silica fume are two common pozzolans), metakaolin reacts with the calcium hydroxide (lime) byproducts produced during cement hydration.

1. Increased resistance to chemical attack
2. Increased durability
3. Reduced effects of alkali-silica reactivity (ASR)
4. Enhanced workability and finishing of concrete
5. Reduced shrinkage, due to "particle packing" making concrete denser
6. Improved color by lightening the color of concrete making it possible to tint lighter integral color.
