Product Description
PB03 Insulation Mortar is an expanded perlite thermal insulation mortar for thermal insulation and leveling the substrate in Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS).
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
PB03 Insulation Mortar is a light grey prepacked powder mortar composed of special hydraulic binders with sealed expanded perlite, natural sands, and special additives.
Sealed expanded perlite is made of natural perlite. When natural perlite is rapidly heated to high temperature the water vaporizes instantaneously and the crushed perlite "pops" like pop corn, expanding till 20 times its original volume.
The resulting snow-white granules are composed of many tiny closed air cells or bubbles. They are very light in density, fully inert and neutral.
The resultant cellular structure accounts for the lightweight and excellent thermal insulation properties.
Due to the sealed nature of the cells, expanded perlite has more strength and resists penetration of water to a greater extend than open celled aggregates of the same weight.
After mixing PB03 Insulation Mortar with water in a mixer, it becomes a plastic-thixotropic mortar easily workable both on vertical surfaces and floors.
PB03 Insulation Mortar are very similar in terms of mechanical strength, modulus of elasticity and porosity to the old mortars based on lime, pozzolan-lime, or hydraulic lime originally used in the construction of historic buildings.
Compared to the original mortars, however, PB03 Insulation Mortar is more resistant to rain water, freeze-thaw cycles, cracks caused by plastic shrinkage in the masonry and in the soils on which they have been built.
MIXING
Prepare PB03 Insulation Mortar in a conventional bucket-type site mixer. Pour in the minimum amount of water (approx. 8 liters for each bag of product), then in a continuous flow, add the contents of the bags that have been opened beforehand.
Mix for 2 minutes, then check that the contents are mixed thoroughly, removing unmixed powder from the sides of the mixer.
Add more water if needed, up to a total of 8.5-11.5 liters per bag, including the amount poured initially.
Mix for a further 2-3 minutes, depending on the efficiency of the mixer, in order to obtain the ideal plasticity.

3-5kg/m2 per cm of the thickness.
