Properties: Colorless single crystal. Sometimes, its color will be off-white, slight red, primorse or black due to impurities in it. It has the luster of glass. Relative density is 2.9-3.0; M. P. Is 1, 000; Slightly soluble in water and the pH value of its aqueous solution is less than 7. It will give off toxic hydrogen fluoride (gas) if confronted with sulfuric acid.
Uses: Fluxing agent for aluminum production, pesticides, as the fusing agent and opaliger for enamel; Also used for making opal glass; As the electrolyte in the production of aluminum alloy, ferric alloy and rimmed steel; As the auxiliary material for grindstone; The raw material for hot dip aluminium coating with steel and iron.
