Rare-earth Yttrium Intermediate Alloy Used in Magnesium Alloy
Rare earth can be used as additives and alloy elements in the magnesium alloy. But a single rare earth the disadvantages of high chemical activity and oxidation, so it is not convenient to use, store and transport. As a result, the cost is high. Besides, with very high melting point and high density, it is not easy to be added into magnesium. So usually by being made into Mg-Re intermediate alloy, not only can we reduce oxidation loss and costs, but also it is easy to store, transport, add in, so that we can get alloy with stable composition and reliable quality. Our company makes the fullest use of resource advantage to do constant research and develop high yttrium intermediate alloy of rare-earth magnesium and rare-earth aluminum, so as to reduce the pressure of production costs caused by direct addition of rare-earth metal.
I. Characteristics of the product
1. Purifying effect: Yttrium has the effect of removing hydrogen, oxygen, iron and other impurities, reducing casting porosity and shrinkage, thus improving mobility.2. Refining modification: refine grain and dendrite.3. When put in magnesium alloy, yttrium has an effect of aging hardening and improving strength under room temperature.4. Yttrium has a better effect of heat-resistance and high temperature creep resistance than other rare-earth elements. And it makes it possible that working temperature can reach 350ºC.5.  By adding yttrium magnesium alloy can have good corrosion resistance.6. Yttrium is helpful to prevent magnesium from burning, by increasing the ignition temperature by 170~200ºC

III. How to use
1.      Pressing the yttrium intermediate alloy graphite bell prover (iron bell prover) into the alloy melt and move around slightly, preventing segregation of rare earth and making rare earth quickly and evenly spread to the melt.
2.      Because rare earth will have replacement reaction with the standard magnesium chloride solvent, it will cause heavy loss of rare earth. Accordingly, we use solvent without magnesium chloride(chloride ion).
3.      Rare earth is not suitable to be used as pre-deoxidizer. When put in after good deaeration effect happens, rare earth not only has the effect of deep deoxidation, but also it can control the shape of oxide inclusions.
4.      Choose the trademark of yttrium imtermediate alloy according to the composition of Mg-Al alloy, purposes and requirements.
